{"id":25424,"date":"2026-02-15T22:07:58","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T21:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cei.org.al\/?p=25424"},"modified":"2026-02-15T22:07:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T21:07:59","slug":"the-hidden-harm-of-gendered-disinformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cei.org.al\/?p=25424","title":{"rendered":"The Hidden Harm of Gendered Disinformation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udea8\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/te4\/2\/16\/1f6a8.png\"> Gender-based disinformation isn\u2019t just words\u2014it\u2019s a powerful tool that fuels inequality, entrenches sexist stereotypes, and silences women in both online and offline spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udd0d\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t60\/2\/16\/1f50d.png\"> According to the 2024 EU Gender Equality Report:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc49\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tf0\/2\/16\/1f449.png\"> Online misogynistic hate speech is now an everyday phenomenon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc49\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tf0\/2\/16\/1f449.png\"> Women are disproportionately targeted, facing violent and explicit threats, often involving sexual violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc49\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tf0\/2\/16\/1f449.png\"> Such disinformation discourages women from participating in politics and public life, further eroding democratic values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83e\udd16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/td5\/2\/16\/1f916.png\"> Social media platforms and technologies amplify this harm:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u26a0\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t5d\/2\/16\/26a0.png\"> Algorithms prioritize sensational and polarizing content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u26a0\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t5d\/2\/16\/26a0.png\"> Tools like deepfakes spread false but convincing material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\uded1\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t3a\/2\/16\/1f6d1.png\"> Let\u2019s take a stand! Together, we can create safer, more inclusive digital spaces and stop the spread of gendered disinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Center for Equality and Inclusion is part of the Road to Inclusive Narratives project, implemented by ALF, aimed at combating the spread of misinformation and disinformation across selected countries of the Euro-Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ending Misinformation
