Tactics of Gendered Disinformation: Understanding the Strategies Behind It

👉 Misinformation vs. Disinformation

Misinformation spreads unintentionally, without the intent to cause harm, while disinformation is deliberately created to deceive and manipulate the public.

🔍 Main Types of Disinformation:

-Satire or parody: Humor is often used, typically without the intent to harm, but it can still mislead.

-False connection: When the headline or caption does not match the actual content.

-Misleading content: Selectively uses information, such as cropping photos or cherry-picking quotes and statistics, to create a distorted view of the facts.

-False context: Genuine content is shared with misleading contextual information.

-Imposter content: Impersonates legitimate sources to deceive.

-Manipulated content: Genuine content is altered to shift public perception.

-Fabricated content: Entirely false content created to deceive and cause harm.

💡 Understanding these tactics is the first step towards identifying and combating gendered disinformation!
